CR Rousseau is an American abstract painter whose work explores color as both architecture and structural language. Working primarily in oil, she constructs internal spaces shaped by sensation, memory and embodied experience rather than external representation. Color functions as an organizing force, operating through visual frequency and energy to shape how a painting is perceived and felt over time.
Her practice is informed by traditions of color field painting and perceptual abstraction while remaining grounded in contemporary concerns around attention, inner life and shared humanity. The work resists quick reading, inviting sustained presence where movement, tension and moments of calm coexist.
Rousseau’s paintings are intended to be experienced at scale and in relation to the spaces they inhabit. Rather than isolated objects, they function as environments that influence movement, breath and perception, offering moments of recalibration within public and institutional settings.
